The Portrait Society | Henry Perronet Briggs
Henry Perronet Briggs was an English painter who trained at the Royal Academy in London from 1811 to 1813 before continuing his studies at Cambridge. Between 1814 and 1844, he participated every year in the Royal Academy exhibition. He initially specialised in narrative painting, i.e. history paintings, scenes after William Shakespeare and genre painting. From 1835, he painted mainly portraits. His clients were noblemen, clerics and high military officers. After his death, his artist's estate was auctioned at Christie's in London in April 1844. Most of his works are today in English museums and private collections.
