In 1934, Mr. René Muller-Laval found this small figurine of a copper-alloy wild boar on the site of the Celtic oppidum at Titelberg and donated it to the State Museums.
Standing 35 mm tall, 45 mm long and 29 mm wide, the animal is plump and sturdy on its legs, its bristles erect in a semi-circular arch along the spine. Its tail is plaited and the nostrils of the snout are asymmetrical. The surface of the body is dotted with small indentations representing the bristles. The little boar’s patina has a greenish-black tinge.
The boar, a tiny testimony of the traditional craftsmanship of the Titelberg region, is dated between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD.
